Technology has played a very big role in the constructing process of my product. Technology that I used for the production of my magazine include advanced cameras, airbrushing, web 2.0, publisher and definitely the multi-platform approach.
Firstly, the use of advanced cameras helped me choose the shutter speed and aperture for the shots I am taking. This can’t be done on a mobile phone or an ordinary camera. Using this has allowed me to take plenty of shots with the brightness/contrast of my choice which helped me have a range of photographs to choose from. With the advanced cameras come the lighting and the light reflector. By using such technologies I could make the model’s body blend in with the black background while keeping the face bright.
Additionally, the use of airbrushing has also helped me to cover up spots on the model of my contents page. This would reproduce hypereality as the face isn’t as realistic as it should be. Not only has photoshop helped me to airbrush, it has also helped me get rid of backgrounds that I didn’t wish to include in my magazine. It is important not to edit an image so much to the point its obvious that the image was edited, therefore I had to balance out the editing.
Here are some screenshots of the process of getting rid of the background on my front cover image. Firstly I used the quick selection tool to highlight all the features I would like to keep. Then I pressed the escape key to delete everything outside of the highlighted parts. Finally, by saving it as a tiff, my image wouldn’t have a background.

Here is an image of my model in my contents page. He has some spots on his face so I used the clone tool to get rid of them. This would reinforce hypereality. I also followed the same quick selection tool to get rid of the background.
The advantages of having such great technology is that things could be done quicker and easier rather than taking weeks to edit one picture. Also, the cost of photographing has also gone down. In the past, cameras were very expensive even though they weren’t as advanced as cameras in the present. Here are images of the camera used in the past and the camera used in the present. By looking at the cameras and their buttons it is obvious that there has been a rise in technology.

Presented next to this paragraph is the print screens of the procedures done to create the double page spreads. I have not used Photoshop for the image on the double page spread as my article is a dark story and wanted to keep my photograph as natural as possible to suit my story. However I still successfully made my double page spread look professional using publisher.
It is so much easier now to construct a magazine than it would have been in the past. A good image and Microsoft publisher could be enough to produce a basic magazine. This shows how the rise in new technology has benefitted major, independent and self publishers.
